Family Counseling

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence calls substance use disorder a family disease. That's because substance use disorder affects the entire family system and the individuals who comprise it. Substance use disorder puts family members under a great deal of stress, disrupting routines and causing unsettling or even frightening experiences.

As a result, family members develop unhealthy coping strategies as they strive to maintain equilibrium in the household. The family unit becomes a fragile and dysfunctional system, and this often unwittingly creates destructive behaviors.

Connections is here to help you whether your loved one is in actively using or in recovery. We're here to advise and support you through the myriad of questions that will naturally arise. It's imperative to learn how to recognize and avoid codependency and enabling, as well as to establish structure and healthy boundaries. Family therapy helps the members of a family unit heal and recover as a group. The therapeutic setting provides a safe space to help family members make specific, positive changes to heal relationships within the family unit.
